Queensland Beekeepers' Association Inc
Annual State Conferences & Annual General Meetings
Each year the Queensland Beekeepers' Association hosts a State Conference and Annual General Meeting. These events are hosted across Queensland, taking our members to regional locations, major metropolitan centres, and occasionally remote rural locations.
Each year, our QBA branches take turns at hosting this event. This years conference will take place in Toowoomba at the Clifford Park Racecourse (Toowoomba Turf Club) between Thursday 15th of June and Friday 16th of June 2023. The QBA Annual Dinner is also a great event on the calendar. This year the QBA Toowoomba Branch have secured Mr 'Chad Morgan' as our evening entertainer. Guest will enjoy a delicious three course meal that highlights local Queensland produce followed by an enjoyable evening of entertainment provided by Chad.
In 2023, the QBA has been incredibly fortunate to secure Professor Cameron Jack from the University of Florida to speak in person at our event. Dr Jack will cover topics related to varroa mite and small hive beetle. More specifically he'll present a number of talks covering what is varroa?, understanding the biology and lifecycle of varroa, and explore the implications to industry and subsequent consequences of living with the mite.
Although the QBA continues to strongly advocate for eradication of varroa mite, we are aware with many newcomers to our industry there is a sizable disconnect in understanding the mite. Our board has made a conscious decision to provide our sector with an opportunity to listen to and learn from one of the world's leading experts in the field of varroa. Make no mistake, the 2023 QBA State Conference and Field day will be the only opportunities to listen to Dr Jack in person and learn from the outcomes of the research he's been involved in to increase beekeepers awareness of the serious and potentially catastrophic nature of varroa mite.
If you haven't seen our video announcement relating to Dr Jack's visit to Queensland see the video at the top of this page or click here to watch it and other video content from the QBA.
Our conferences are a great opportunity to meet and mingle with like-minded individuals, learn from the research and industry development specialists who continue to push the boundaries to support our sector to build strong, healthy and happy bees, and your chances to speak with beekeeping trade specialists who provide a hands on look into the latest innovations in beekeeping equipment and supplies.
Following on from our two jam packed days at the conference, the Toowoomba Branch of the QBA will host our annual field day on Saturday the 17th of June 2023 at the Toowoomba Showgrounds. Planning for this event is currently underway and it is certain to be a great day out for anyone who has a passion for honey bees, beekeeping, beekeeping equipment, trade suppliers, field equipment, market stalls and more.
If you're a beekeeping trade supplier, please contact Marina at the Toowoomba Branch of the QBA via email qbatoowoomba@gmail.com . Marina will be co-ordinating the event and will be more than happy to assist you in securing a stand at the field day. Due to the dramatic increase in beekeeping registrations, we're anticipating a sizable crowd interested in attending this event.
General admission tickets for the field day are available at the entry gate on arrival. Ticket prices are $10.00 per person with children under 16 free.
So ensure you mark June 15th, 16th and 17th in your calendar. Bee sure to register to attend our conference today (see the event information below) as tickets are selling quickly and join us in Toowoomba to experience 3-days of buzz for yourself.
