Dear Members,

I am pleased to provide news that the National Management Group (NMG) have reached an agreement on the National Transition to Management Plan for Varroa mite.

This plan has been frustratingly many months in the making with our National Industry body AHBIC continuing their strong advocacy and representation efforts to see a meaningful plan delivered benefiting all beekeepers across Australia.

We thank the team at AHBIC for their efforts and draw your attention to the update from AHBIC attached below with relation to the agreement reached by the NMG on Friday 9th February 2024.

The QBA continue to urge all beekeepers in Queensland to continue to test for varroa and report all surveillance results to the Bee 123 portal.

Identifying varroa early in Queensland is the key understanding the spread and distribution of the pest,  giving our beekeepers the means to initiate treatment early.

All the best,

Jo Martin.
